Did Quibi have a Killer Feature like the iPod?
As we all know by now, Quibi, the mobile first content service by Meg Whitman and Jeffery Katzenberg is now dead in the water. It’s over. I take no joy in seeing Quibi’s failure. As a digital product manager, you hope these product launches do well. There are lots of jobs, marketing, branding, engineering, financing attached to these expensive tech/media content ventures. With a $1.7bn price tag for Quibi, we all hoped it was successful. However, I’ve seen these media plays before and many of my work associates knew it was…
A couple weeks ago I listened to NPR’s Hidden Brain podcast episode Buy, Borrow, Steal: How Debt Became The ‘Sugar-Rush’ Solution To Our Economic Woes. Although household debt is 10% less than what it was 10 years ago, it’s still relatively high and without the payment holidays, many Americans would be in dire straights financially—some are already in bankruptcy.
Although the episode is packed to the brim with useful historical facts on how the US has connected debt to economic progress, I thought the observations below from the episode were some of the more interesting highlights.
Now that we are in a new world of self-isolation and in some instances self-quarantine, we are forced to be extremely resourceful on how we proceed with our daily life choices. Nothing could really prepare anyone for a global event like the Coronavirus pandemic.
As many of you know, I’ve been an advocate for home based workouts for over 15+ years. You can read my rage-like soapbox post, Why I Stopped Going to the Gym. But even with my current home work out regiment, it’s still difficult. In the new COVID-19 world of work from home, kids homework review (I…

Sometimes my blog posts go through a long development process while others are more spontaneous and dynamic. This post is the latter. Written as a response on a email thread for the HHRT (Hip Hop Round Table) regarding the killing of Trayvon Martin by a wannabe cop, George Zimmerman. As many of you now know, Trayvon Martin is the latest innocent Black kid or man to be shot dead for doing absolutely nothing. 18 years ago I could have been Trayvon Martin. The Trayvon Martin story has not only occupied…
I know…didn’t I say I was learning Arabic? Yes, Arabic is my number one priority but occasionally you off road a bit and learn something you never anticipated. For those that don’t know, I have a small home bakery. One of the cafes I deliver to have a great barista crew who speak Russian and Ukrainian. They taught me a couple things, but in a week or two I was able to say, “I bring cookies”. Check it out.
Shortly thereafter, remembering how to say common words like thank you (Spa-cee-bo) and your welcome (paja-oo-sta) came easily. This might…
As you get into the 40+ age range, one of the biggest challenges of working out is finding a time and place where you can consistently workout. Many of us Generations X’rs are finding it extremely difficult to maintain a healthy lifestyle. As someone who has been active for decades, utilizing a home fitness routine to save money and time, I’m finding it difficult to workout daily, as my time gets squeezed with my job, family, and my side hustle business. When you think about time with family, extracurricular for the kids, job/side hustle, the squeeze on availability becomes stressed…
The other day, I stumbled upon a website called ThreadLab.com. The site is simple. Give them your clothing measurements and they will handpick clothes based on preferences (e.g. color, style, shirt, jeans, cut, etc) you’ve submitted to the site — then they’ll send you a package of clothes as you request them to your home. Ask me 2 years ago if I would ever consider another company virtually shopping for me and I would have told you, “No way dude, I’m not that lazy”. Well..I’m here to tell you, I am that lazy. We’ll maybe lazy is the wrong word…
There’s a lot we can learn from the Rocky film series and learning Arabic. If you haven’t seen the Rocky film franchise, there are a lot of spoilers in this article.
Arabic is by far one of the most fascinating and frustrating (I’d add another F, but I’m trying to keep it clean) languages to learn. However, it’s all milk and honey once you get comfortable with the sounds of the language. Right now, I know about 75–100 words in Arabic and will be moving to the next level in my learning process—which is having a basic 1–5 minute conversations…

Initially I was going to turn my workout routine into an app where you could use all my fitness tools and turn them into your own program. However, I have so many side projects cooking right now, I don’t have time. I wrote this post because after 3 years on a resistance and body weight training program, I realize that my home workout routine is far superior than any fitness gym. …

As some of you know I’ve become a big fan of home workouts (calisthenics) instead of public gyms. You can read all about it here. Over time I’ve lost hope in the “public” gym being a space where I can work out efficiently and progressively, but I never lost hope in becoming stronger. As someone who was a big advocate of bench press and heavy compound movements with free weights, I had my fears about a home workout coming up short against free weights.
